Because it is Esther Day tomorrow, I very much felt like reposting this drawing that I did of Hazel Grace Lancaster from John Green’s novel The Fault in Our Stars. While Esther is not Hazel, and while this drawing is not supposed to look like Esther, it was very much inspired by her. You can read more about Esther’s story here. The reason I’m not posting this ON Esther Day is because I want as many people to know about Esther before Esther Day so they can tell those they love that they love them on Esther Day. And in light of Esther day, wonderful people of the Internet, I love you. Many of you have stuck with me for some time now and have helped me through a lot of difficult times in my life. It’s not always been easy, but you’ve accepted me through the good and bad and I’m truly grateful for that. Not many of you have been with me since my teenage years, which were unmistakably the hardest, so this is for all you young people out there. If you ever need help or comfort or a shoulder, I’m offering you mine, right here. I know what it’s like to feel like you don’t belong and like you’re different and like everything in the world is against you. I’ve been there. At 16, my physical disability made me feel like I was less than nothing. Common sense abandons you when you feel like that and it almost killed me. If you feel like that, talk to someone; talk to me. For me, it got better, once I’d accepted that nothing I was going to do was going to change anything for the better. I’ve been back there last year, back in that black hole, and even today, I sometimes get a glimpse of it, of not feeling good enough. And you might, too. I think it’s part of what makes us human. But know that there are people out there who love you. Know, that if you’ve ever offered me words of comfort, or listened to me, or read my posts when I was down, I love you. And please, people, tell people that you love them as often as you can. They need it. I know from personal experience that it can be the difference between giving up and hanging on. So hang on…
