How are you? Here’s a bit of a long post for you. I know not all of you like hearing about me so I’m going to do this once, but first:

Animation

My, did I expect my animation of Darren / Blaine was going to create such a splash? Heck no.

I made the animation in one day, over about 12 hours but with breaks. Basically it consists of 10 drawings of Darren, some of which you can actually find on my page. There were originally 11, but one of them was so ugly I decided to leave it out in the end. It was the last frame. 

I’ve brushed with simpler animation before, very poorly, but nothing like this. This, in the end, had very little to do with animation, and more with me just drawing portraits with subtle changes.

Me

Hi, I’m Maartje, but you may all call me Faye. I’m Dutch, I’m 24, I’m single, I am not an artist for a living. I’m also physically disabled. I was born 12 weeks early, and had a brain hemorrhage that has caused me to have very little control over the muscles in the left side of my body. I am therefore quite often in a wheelchair, except for when I’m home. I have my own kick ass apartment that everyone is freaking jealous of.

I paint because it makes me feel limitless. I hated art when I was a kid, though, and instead always wanted to be a writer. So, I do some of that too. It wasn’t until I was halfway through university, at 19, that I started drawing. I’ve never had any art classes. Those of you who think you have to start young are therefore wrong. It helps, but it’s not a must.

I love stories, be it in the form of books, movies, plays, music or musicals. I’m a storyteller pur sang.

I hope to one day be able to make money doing art, but I’m not really an optimist, I’m glad you all like it though.
